05 Mar Access Platforms Require Regular Checks
OH&S and WHS legislation states that an employer must provide a safe working environment for employees, including workers and visitors alike.
AliSafe has been able to help many companies in many varied industries, from construction to mining and from manufacturing to aviation, to provide access products that help improve the safe working environment.
Access products or products used to control falls are generally classed as PLANT, and require records of regular maintenance and inspections to be kept. PLEASE NOTE: Inspections and general maintenance should only be completed by a competent person and who has read and understands the manufacturers recommendations and instructions.
A few simple checks can take only a few moments but can save somebodies life –
For Example
AliSafe’s Truck Access Platform – Check for cracked or broken welds. Check for dings, dint or holes in the product. Ensure the castors move freely but also lock into place and that the boom rail moves freely and closes correctly into position.
AliSafe’s Work Platform – Check for cracked or broken welds. Check for dings, dint or holes in the product, check the rear wheels move freely and the nut and bolt are in place. Also ensure the boom rail moves freely and closes correctly into position.
Custom Access Platforms will be delivered with very much the same type of checks but may have extra items like locking pins, nuts and bolts or removable handrails to check. In a situation where a custom platform has been designed and supplied by AliSafe, a specific set of instructions will be also supplied.
These are just a few quick checks that should be made prior to using an AliSafe product. “Things” can “happen” to products that may not always be reported.
Special note: Employees, workers or visitors should always carry out a JSA prior to using any plant (access product). While a set of instructions is provided for each platform/product from AliSafe (including for the standard Truck Access Platform and Work Platforms), a JSA also helps to manage the risk associated with a fall or when moving from one level to another.
