Why regular checks matter
OH&S and WHS legislation states that an employer must provide a safe working environment for employees, including workers and visitors alike.
AliSafe has helped many companies in many industries, from construction to mining and from manufacturing to aviation. We provide access products that help improve the safe working environment.
Access products, or products used to control falls, are generally classed as plant. They require records of regular maintenance and inspections to be kept.
Please note: inspections and general maintenance should only be completed by a competent person. That person should have read and understood the manufacturer’s recommendations and instructions.
Access platform inspection: quick checks before use
A few simple checks take only a few moments, but they can save somebody’s life. These are just a few quick checks that should be made before using an AliSafe product. Things can happen to products that may not always be reported.
Truck access platform checks
- Check for cracked or broken welds.
- Check for dings, dents or holes in the product.
- Ensure the castors move freely and lock into place.
- Ensure the boom rail moves freely and closes correctly into position.
Work platform checks
- Check for cracked or broken welds.
- Check for dings, dents or holes in the product.
- Check the rear wheels move freely and the nut and bolt are in place.
- Ensure the boom rail moves freely and closes correctly into position.
Custom platform checks
Custom Access Platforms are delivered with very much the same type of checks. They may also have extra items to check, like locking pins, nuts and bolts or removable handrails. When AliSafe designs and supplies a custom platform, we also supply a specific set of instructions.
Carry out a JSA before use
Employees, workers or visitors should always carry out a JSA before using any plant (access product). A set of instructions is provided for each AliSafe platform, including the standard Truck Access Platform and Work Platforms.
A JSA also helps to manage the risk associated with a fall, or with moving from one level to another.
